Scientists and even main stream media are starting to re-examine the role of exotic species in ecosystem dynamics.Permaculturalists have long been of the opinion that species dispersion is a natural role of human behavior in ecosystems. The species that follow human settlement have spread across the globe because of their adaption to the microclimates and environmental conditions that are common in and around human settlements. Like Bill Mollison says: "everything gardens"
I am not really wanting to get into any full fledged explorations of the schism between permiculralists and conservation biologists.
What I do want to notice is:
*that species distribution and re-distribution is an integral part of the evolutionary history of the earth
*that humans are accelerating this distribution
*that many of the species considered "invasive" are highly useful and are colonizing areas of massive human disturbance
*that much of the literature and methodology used to rationalize and implement invasive species control was funded by monsanto and other beeming examples of science and ecological awareness.
